Straightliners Drag Racing, St. Angelo, Enniskillen, 9-9-07

The Straightliners made a welcome return to Northern Ireland and in particular St Angelo Airport in Enniskillen. This venue is arguably one of the best surfaces for drag racing in the country. The racing started at around 10.30am on Sunday morning with some big power cars turning up for some early runs. These included a few AI Autos Evo’s and a lot of ECC cars such as their big powered Subaru Imprezas and a Lotus Elise along with a stunning Noble.

Along with the bigger power cars there was a lot of Civic Type R's, 2.0 Turbo Corsa’s, Novas, Rovers, Supra's and a 1.7 Puma powered Fiesta etc. All in all the wide variety of machinery kept the crowd entertained throughout the day with some good match ups.

A great moment in the event was when the PSNI decided to take a run up the strip in their R32 Golf and came up against the Airports Fire truck turning it into a battle of the forces! With the lights on green and the services with their lights and horns on full they set off. Of course the R32 went off like a rocket but to fool people didn’t quite go at full speed I am sure. A big up to the guys for taking a run and showing they arent all out to get all modified car fans.

Most of the day was taken up by qualifying runs which meant everyone who had paid their money and entered their car could run trying to get the best time they could. In the late afternoon came the shoot out finals which saw the fastest cars for each class against each other. All the cars where split up into these classes....

Pro Car Class
11.5 Second Class,
12.5 Second Class,
13.3 Second Class,
14.3 Second Class,
15.3 Second Class

Each of the classes came out with some very good results with the guys from ECC winning most of the prizes. John Curistan took the Pro Class honors and the top speed of the day award.

At the event there was also a show and shine with some great looking cars all minted and spotless. The top spot was eventually won by a white Honda Civic.
