Erne Diff, Show and Shine Report, 28-12-04
Following the success of the Diffing Event at Ardboe the next venue for the latest round of fun was St Angelo
Airport in Enniskillen. This time the facilities were there for drag racing to spice the event up. There was also a show and shine and auto test to go
along with the usual fun fill action in the diffing arena. Despite the odd downpour the numbers for the various events were absolutely huge therefore
original plans of three runs for £10 were abandoned and each entrant was charged £10 per run.
There were two arenas in total. One catered for the diffing and the other hosted the auto testing. The crowds seemed to favour the diffing event as
the circle was filled all day long. Cars which performed circles included an Evo 8, a Lexus, various BMWs, twin cams, Vauxhall Carlton GSi`s, an old
Dukes of Hazzard replica, the whole Shuggy and the LWD (Limited Welded Diff) Donegal Sierra crew. A few quads were also doing circles to make a
chance from the cars. A crowd favourite was Declans Black Morris Minor which provided a great bit of entertainment.
The quarter mile drag strip was probably the best surface and location in the whole of Ireland. Many event organizers had tried to secure they venue
for events previously without any luck. So thankfully the chance was finally offered for a bit of action at the airport. The OMA Subaru lads impressed
with some blinding times along with a few other high powered cars including Skylines and Lancer Evo 8s. A few surprise rockets including a Cavalier
and Astra Turbo also set some quick times. Another car which stood out was a beautiful Audi TT on Porsche alloys. A lot of site members even had a few
grudge races to sort out and the racers included Darragh in his Celica, 00 Dub in his Impreza, Chris Arthur in his Celica, Jamesie in his Belmont
Turbo, Jaffa in his 206 Gti and Gaz in his M3 to name but a few.
Overall the majority of people had a good time with the only let down being the weater. The organisers confirmed that Ardboe Diff will return in May
2005 and I would really love to see this location used again during the good weather. With a bit of sunshine and a bright late night this event has
the potential to be the best in Ireland by a country mile.....
